- How to Win Friends and Influence People. Not that she would "need" the book but she would be interested in how we went around influencing people given we are not magical and don't have the use of a powerful wand at our disposal.
- The Classic Fairy Tales by the Brothers Grimm, Hans Christen Andersen, Charles Perrault etc. This would be for entertainment but, more importantly, to ensure we have the correct versions.
- Crown of Roses. This is a War of the Roses historical fiction novel which I like but the Fairy Queen would be intrigued by the title. And then horrified at what horrors were inflicted in the fight for control of the country throughout our history.
- The Daughter of Time. Again it would be the title that would draw the Queen in, as she's not quite the creature of time we humans are (she is not immortal but her life span, murder and magical accidents excepted, is remarkably longer than ours). She would like the story and the clearing of a maligned King.
- Ring for Jeeves. The Queen is used to ringing for her servants so the title would make her think this was a factual book to begin with but Wodehouse's humour would win her over. (It wins most people over!). The Queen wouldn't entirely approve of the gentleman's gentleman being far more intelligent than his master but she accepts life on Earth is entirely different from life in her realm so would accept the change here.
I love to ask myself questions every now and then as to what my characters would do or would like and find it a great way of completing their profiles/finding out more about them. (It often confirms what I already know but sometimes I'm surprised and that surprise can fuel further stories, which is a good thing!). This is the latest question to ask myself so I thought I'd start with what my Fairy Queen, Roxannadrell, would read if she had access to our libraries and book shops.

AuthorI'm Allison Symes and I write novels, short stories as well as some scripts and poems. I love setting my work in my magical world, the Fairy Kingdom, and my favourite character is Eileen, who believes hypocrisy is something that happens to other people without caring that statement is hypocritical in itself! Eileen is huge fun to write for and about. Archives
