This was initially set up by Eileen who became fed up with being the Kingdom's one-woman problem removal team. She saw the squad as her way of getting help with policing the realm and she was right. They did help her and she became more relaxed as a result. They weren't ever going to stop Eileen's defection, nothing would have done that, but without the squad, there was every chance she would have gone sooner than she did.
Eileen taught the squad some of her tricks of the trade (there was no way she would ever share them all) and they have become a very efficient magical fighting force. Now led by Eileen's protege and number one fan, Hanastrew, people think twice about taking the squad on directly. Even the witches have to calculate the likelihood of being able to get away with something without the squad rectifying it before they do anything. Eileen and Hanastrew consider this a result.
