The vast majority of the Fairy Kingdom's residents avoid magical battles as the injuries are worse than those in an ordinary battle and it is possible to curse someone so that their wounds never heal. (That of course leads to the victim dying as a result).
Past battles have badly scarred certain of the Kingdom's 7 regions, so much so that these areas are now permanently barren and bleak. Nothing can stand having too much magic going through it. Attempts were made to restore these areas but all failed and they are now left abandoned, unvisited and generally not mentioned. Fresdian occasionally retries a restoration spell of her own invention but she has had no joy here either.

Usually the villages and towns have been able to avoid damage directly but this is not always the case and so most dread it when the Witch gets uppity as they know it will involve a fight of some sort eventually. They also know they're the ones to clear up the mess later.
