Signs to watch out for are:-
- The really magically talented do not like talking about their abilities. They don't feel the need to "beef themselves up" and like to retain the element of surprise when dealing with their enemies.
- The magically gifted do not give interviews (and certainly wouldn't to the likes of Roherum, they'd want someone with far more gravitas for one thing). They see interviews as something their enemies could use to glean information from to use against them.
- There is always an air of mystery around these people. Either their background is not clear (it's either humble or royal, there's no in between) or how they came to work for the Queen is hushed up.
- The Fairy Queen treats them with respect.
- The Chief Witch treats them warily until she works out the best approach to use on them. See 6 below.
- The Chief Witch tries to recruit, bribe or kill the magically talented that refuse to work for her.
- Brankaresh, the Chief Wizard, steals their best spells given half a chance.
- Roherum persistently tries for interviews with these people and always gets a very rude brush-off. He is not easily upset, which is just as well, given the number of swear words he's learned thanks to them being aimed at him.
- Hanastrew discreetly and usually succeeds in recruiting the magically talented for her squad. They then "disappear" to undergo specialist training.
- The Queen's Council accept there are just some people you don't ask questions about.
