The politicial climate has settled down a lot since Queen Gwendolyn's time. It is generally stable though the Council are beginning to find their feet with Queen Roxannadrell. They speak their mind and openly question things more, a development Eileen welcomes until she discovers that their most awkward questions and comment are saved for her! Even Roherum can sometimes ask awkward questions, which disconcerts the weatherman who prefers to think of his rival for the presenting jobs as a berk and evidence to the contrary is not welcome.
The general climate worsens when the Witch decides she is going to take the Kingdom by force. Ordinary witches, especially those who really do only gather herbs etc for their recipes, find themselves coming under suspicion of abetting their colleague and are routinely stopped and interrogated. Eileen is against this as she can see the damage it does. Where fairies and witches have learnt to get along, that becomes endangered and as far as Eileen is concerned the only one who benefits from that is the Chief Witch.
