- Always know where your nemesis, Eileen, is and don't provoke her - unless you fancy leaving life earlier and in a puff of smoke. The only way of dealing successfully with Eileen is to take her by surprise (and good luck with that incidentally, nobody has achieved this).
- Always ensure you have a plentiful supply of eye of newt etc in stock. You don't want to be caught short on your ingrdients when about to go into battle or if there is someone, from your viewpoint, who is crying out to be cursed.
- Always service your broom regularly and thoroughly to keep it in top flying condition.
- If you must go into house building, use bricks and mortar. The place for gingerbread is on a tea plate with a nice cuppa to go with it.
- Know your enemies' magical capabilities.
- Know your own magical capabilities.
- Don't assume your powers must automatically be better/stronger than anyone else' s just because you get to wear a nice black pointed hat. It simply doesn't work that way.
- Practice your favourite spells regularly. You may need to call on these in an emergency so ensure that you can!
- Sticking kids in ovens does not go down well even amongst fellow witches as the more enlightened can see what a bad reputation that gives you. While a bad reputation in itself seems as if it is something a witch would want, it does bring out the pitchfork and kill the witch brigade in huge numbers.
- Pick your battles carefully.

AuthorI'm Allison Symes and I write novels, short stories as well as some scripts and poems. I love setting my work in my magical world, the Fairy Kingdom, and my favourite character is Eileen, who believes hypocrisy is something that happens to other people without caring that statement is hypocritical in itself! Eileen is huge fun to write for and about. Archives
