THE RULES OF MAGIC - 26
The Queen reserves the right to set up a magical tournament whenever she chooses. The idea of these tournaments is to see who is the best fairy, witch, wizard or whatever in any one year or one region. The Queen likes to be aware of emerging talent (especially when it is powerful emerging talent). Refusals to take part won’t be accepted as the Queen will believe the person refusing does have something to hide. In these tournaments no deaths are allowed to be inflicted though aside from that rule almost anything else goes. The Queen also expects those taking part in the tournaments to be able to explain their spells and how they got them to work.
The Queen hasn’t commanded a magical tournament for some time, given to her troubles with Eileen, Her Majesty’s brief overthrow and the monarch’s determination to now make sure the Kingdom knows she is back and has no intention of being removed or weakened in any way again. The Council expect a magical tournament to be set up again soon as the Queen will want to keep a very beady eye on emerging magical talent. So be warned. And don’t try to hide magical skills. The Queen and/or her Council will find you out and will want to question you in depth as to why you tried to cover your true skills up. They are not prepared to tolerate even another Fresdian who covered up her abilities to stop her being used by the government the way they used and endangered Eileen.
What the Queen really wants is to set up a magical tournament with Eileen taking an active part in it. This is partly to have someone to represent the royal house and also to give Eileen something to work for which is also fun. The Queen would love to see Eileen and Hanastrew go head to head here, believing it would also be good additional training for those who oppose her. Sadly one of those opposing the Queen is Eileen! Eileen is also wary of anything that might “suck her” back into the magical world. There’s no way she’d allow Jennifer to take part in such an ordeal by combat either.
